Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Information and Broadcasting Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan has lambasted the opposition parties saying they do not find corruption weird because their “survival is tied to corruption”.
While terming the 10-hour long All Parties Conference (APC) failed, PM’s special assistant said that the APC’s notification did not mention anything against corruption, adding that the “political actors do not find corruption weird.” Apparently, she said, the members of APC did not seem to be in agreement over a viewpoint.
While criticizing the notification, Awan said that she felt like laughing over it, adding that the event used to “host political actors” and “hold puppet shows”. She, once again, said that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)-led government had no threat from the opposition parties, adding that the participating parties were in danger from each other.
Rahbar is a joke for people … leaders aren’t robbers. 99 percent of the Rahbar Council members are tainted with corruption.
Awan said that those who used to roll up sleeves and give the threat to topple the government have, apparently, agreed that their survival is tied to corruption. She said that APC “will have to patiently work for the next four years for old salaries”.
Rigging Claims after 10 Months
While commenting on opposition’s claim that 2018 general elections were rigged, Awan wondered how the opposition parties have suddenly started to point out flaws 10 months after elections.
Before the 2018 elections, she said, the Election Commission of Pakistan was made by the then government and the opposition and not by PTI. Taking another jibe at the opposition, the media reported, she said their logic seemed to be that elections were free and fair where they won and that “selection was done where they lost”.

“The House first selected and then elected [Prime Minister] Imran Khan,” the special assistant was quoted as saying by media. She added: “After selected and elected, what we need to talk about is ‘rejected for life’ … for those ‘rejected for life’ by the Supreme Court.”
Awan Points out Maulana Fazlur Rahman’s Despondency over not being in Power
While turning her attention to the host of APC – Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rahman – she said: “Everyone is aware of Maulana Fazlur Rahman’s despondency over not being in power.”
She said that Rahman’s logic is simple: “If not me, then nothing” and “If I’m in power, then the parliament and the government work”. Rahman has facilitated APC but who will pay the bill, she quipped.

Commenting on APC’s Rahbar Committee, Awan said the word “Rahbar is a joke for people … leaders aren’t robbers. 99 percent of the Rahbar Council members are tainted with corruption.”
