The 2022 World Car Awards have been finally announced at the ongoing New York International Auto Show. Winner of this year’s World Car of the Year (WCOTY) award as well as other categories including World Performance Car of the Year, World Urban Car of the Year, World Luxury Car of the Year, World Electric Vehicle of the Year and World Car Design of the Year have also been announced.
The awards were officially launched in 2004 and since then it has been recognized as one of the best World Car Awards Program as over 25 global markets are analyzed and researched for the distinction. Similarly, this year also, the awards first announced its top three world finalists, and the winners were declared live at the 2022 New York International Auto Show on Wednesday, April 13, 2022.
Furthermore, a panel of 102 renowned international automotive journalists from 33 countries selected the finalists based on their evaluation and professional experience.

Categories for top three world finalists
The first category was the World Car of the Year and the finalist for this category were Ford Mustang Mach-E, Hyundai Ioniq 5, and Kia EV6. Secondly, the finalists for the category of World Electric Vehicle of the Year were Audi e-Tron GT, Hyundai Ioniq 5, and Mercedes-Benz EQS. Thirdly, Opel Mokka, Toyota Yaris Cross, and Volkswagen Taigun were shortlisted for World Urban Car Award.
Lastly, World Luxury Car nominees were BMW iX, Genesis GV70, and Mercedes-Benz EQS. Additionally, classification was also made for World Performance Car which included Audi e-Tron GT, BMW M3/M4, and Toyota GR86 / Subaru BRZ. Similarly, the nominations for the World Car Design of the Year award were Audi e-Tron GT, Hyundai Ioniq 5, and Kia EV6.
World car of the year 2022
Hyundai IONIQ 5 won the award for World Car of the Year 2022 at the New York International Auto Show. The model is distinguished due to smart mobility and E-GMP platform technology, enhancing the exceptional performance of the vehicle.
Moreover, the model has an increasingly great appreciation and demand from consumers around the globe making it a huge success in the electrification of the automotive industry. Likely, Hyundai IONIQ 5 has also fulfilled the eligibility criteria for the award as it had produced 10,000 units/year with a lower price range compared to those luxury cars.

World electric vehicle of the year 2022
Hyundai IONIQ 5 was declared as the 2022 World Electric Vehicle at the International Auto Show. One of the distinguishing features of the car is a standard range of 58kWh battery and a 350 kW charger. The model can charge up to 80 percent in just 18 minutes and only five minutes are required to get 100 km of range. The high-performance 800-volt technology makes the vehicle unique for the award.
World luxury car 2022
Mercedes-Benz EQS won the award for the world luxury car at the show. The vehicle offers comfort to the passengers as it has a capacity of five passengers, leaving enough room for them to move around in their seats. Moreover, the model also has a 22-63 cubic feet cargo capacity and a luxury S-Class interior adds more to its uniqueness. Likewise, the heating, cooling, and massaging features are also incorporated into the model to make the ride more comfortable.

World performance car 2022
Audi e-Tron GT was awarded the world performance car award, the model is uniquely designed for its efficient and exceptional performance. The model has two electric motors, one driving the front wheels and one for the rears, enhancing its wheel spin and grip. Furthermore, the 800-volt lithium-ion battery integrated into the flat underbody makes the vehicle perform exceptionally high and increases its efficacy while charging and driving.

World urban car 2022
The award of the World Urban Car was given to the Toyota Yaris Cross for its unique specifications and performance quality in urban areas. The model has a compact size and can run on electric power at a lower speed with an optional four-wheel drive making it preferably an authentic urban car.

World car design of the year 2022
Hyundai IONIQ 5 was declared for the World Car Design Award as the model has a unique exterior and exclusive shape and design. The integration of cutting-edge Parametric Pixel lights on both front and rear characterizes the exterior with clean and sharp lines, creating a sleek and urbane look. Similarly, the flush door handles, solar roof, active air intakes, and pixel light are some of the defining features of the model.
