Gilgit to get investment worth $10 million by Pak Greenland, owned by overseas Pakistanis

The investment will tap into an array of sectors such as agriculture, tourism, livestock, logistics et cetera. The success of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) is attracting many overseas Pakistanis towards Pakistan's unexplored sectors.

Gilgit-Baltistan will reportedly get investments worth $10 million over the next five years, according to a statement by Pak Greenland Corporation, a company owned by overseas Pakistanis. The investment will tap into an array of sectors such as agriculture, tourism, livestock, logistics et cetera.

The success of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) is attracting many overseas Pakistanis towards Pakistan’s unexplored sectors where they see potential for profitable outcomes.

Pakistanis abroad are investing in Pakistan because CPEC has opened doors to a vast range of profitable opportunities, initiatives suitable for investment and government policies that also cater to overseas Pakistanis, stated Zulfikar Momin, the Director of Pak Greenland Corporaton.

He further informed that his company is ready to tap into profit-making opportunities in Gilgit-Balistan’s agriculture and tourism sector. Projects worth $2 million have already been started by Pak Greenland Corporation in Gilgit Balistan and the funds have been transferred to Pakistan though banking channels.

“Initiatives will also be undertaken to modernize fresh fruit, dry fruit, dairy, yak meat, and trout farming. These commodities will be exported and the revenue will help accelerate the growth of GB and strengthen Pakistan’s economy,” Zulfikar Momin stated.

Moreover, arrangements for exporting Pak Greenland Corporation’s products to China’s Xinjiang province have already been made, they will be sent to China by land. Also, the  Xinjiang province, either through Gwadar or Karachi, will export agricultural materials to the Middle East. The government of Pakistan has already granted permission to the company for the aforementioned international transportation

Pak Greenland Corporation wants to improve Gilgit-Baltistan’s tourism sector so it can compete with other countries on an international front, stated Zulfikar Momin.

Gilgit is now Covid-19 free

The Gilgit district of Pakistan currently has zero active cases of Covid-19, informed Deputy Commissioner of Gilgit, Naveed Ahmed.

Naveed Ahmed broke this news on Twitter by sharing a daily situation report of Covid-19 formulated by the Provincial Emergency Operation Center and the Health Department of Gilgit Baltistan.

The Deputy Commissioner lauded the historic achievement and wrote “Alhamdulillah! Gilgit is Covid-19 free finally.”

The daily Covid-19 situation report shows that along with Gilgit, Astore, Diamer, Ghizer, Hunza, Kharmang, Nagar, and Skardu have also reported zero active cases of Covid-19.

The Home Secretary of Gilgit-Baltistan, Muhammad Ali Randhawa also shared Naveed Ahmed’s tweet and thanked Allah for this extraordinary achievement.

He further went on to appreciate the tireless efforts of all the frontline workers who have shown unwavering courage and dedication to combat the deadly virus. Muhammad Ali Randhawa further advised everyone to take proper precautions and follow the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for Covid-19.
