Shehbaz Sharif hits back at Zardari’s remarks on Nawaz Sharif

Asif Zardari commented in reference to Nawaz Sharif, that the person who was not ready to ‘breath his last in Pakistan’ did not have a stake in the country. In response, Shehbaz Sharif, while criticizing Zardari, reiterated Nawaz Sharif's commitment to Pakistan.

PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif criticized PPP co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari for his remarks against Mian Nawaz Sharif. In strong words, Shehbaz Sharif said that Zardaris’s statement is “unfortunate.”

Taking to Twitter, Shehbaz Sharif expressed his reservations about the PPP leader. He also reiterated Nawaz Sharif’s commitment to Pakistan.

“Zardari Sahib’s statement about Mian Nawaz Sharif is unfortunate. Mian Sahib’s unwavering commitment to Pakistan has always been unquestionable,” Shehbaz Sharif said.

“Zardari sb. knows the conditions in which MNS had to go abroad. We should refrain from such remarks & work for the greater good of the country,” he further added.

To clarify, earlier, Asif Zardari commented in reference to Nawaz Sharif, that the person who was not ready to ‘breath his last in Pakistan’ did not have a stake in the country.

He made the remarks during a ceremony at Bilawal House in Lahore to honor party workers in the follow-up of an impressive contest in NA 133 on 5th December.

PML-N’s Shaista Pervaiz Malik emerged victorious against PPP’s Chaudhry Aslam Gill with a margin of roughly 14,000 votes. However, PPP managed to increase its vote bank, with its candidate receiving 40 percent of the total votes as compared to the meager five percent in the 2018 general elections.

During the ceremony, Asif Zardari lambasted Nawaz Sharif without taking his name. He said the PMLN leadership was against the interests of Pakistan. Those who do not want to die in their homeland, have nothing to do with the problems of Pakistan, he added.

According to him, he had been facing imprisonment in hard times in the past but he never thought of leaving the country.

Rivalry between PPP, PML-N?

Important to note, PPP and PML-N often shared cordial ties owing to their common goal of ousting the PTI government. However, tensions heightened with the NA 133 elections.

Regarding this, a controversial video surfaced on social media where the Opposition was allegedly buying votes by bribing voters. The video showed voters taking an oath on what is claimed to be the Holy Quran. Meanwhile, PML-N posters covered the walls in the background.

Reacting to the video, PML-N denied that the workers bribing the voters belonged to the party. The party also claimed that it is a malicious campaign launched by PPP.

Meanwhile, PPP rejected the accusations. PPP Central Punjab’s general secretary, Syed Hasan Murtaza, issued a video statement accusing PML-N of according respect to the “note” (currency) instead of the “vote”.
