WhatsApp’s upcoming AI voice chat feature

Unlike the current voice note feature, which only allows one-way communication, the new mode will allow Meta AI to respond verbally.

WhatsApp, the world’s most popular messaging app, is taking another step toward integrating artificial intelligence (AI) into its platform. In a recent development, the app is working on a new feature that will allow users to engage in voice chats with Meta AI, the chatbot that resides within the app in some markets. This upcoming feature is expected to make interactions with Meta AI more intuitive and dynamic, providing a more personalized user experience.

Voice Chat Mode for Meta AI

WhatsApp is preparing to introduce a voice chat mode that will enable users to have real-time, hands-free verbal conversations with Meta AI. Unlike the current voice note feature, which only allows one-way communication, the new mode will allow Meta AI to respond verbally. This will transform the way users interact with the chatbot, moving from text-based exchanges to more natural, conversational interactions.

The voice chat mode is currently in development for both Android and iOS versions of the app. Although it’s not yet active for public testing, users enrolled in the WhatsApp beta program for Android have already received hints of this feature in the latest beta version (2.24.17.16).

Customizable AI Voices

A standout feature of the upcoming update is the ability to choose from ten different voices for Meta AI. While the voices have not been named or fully described, each is represented by a differently colored circle, allowing users to easily switch between options. It is expected that these voices will offer a variety of accents, tones, and energy levels, catering to diverse user preferences.

This level of customization marks an important step towards more personalized AI interactions. As users grow more accustomed to AI in their daily lives, having the option to select a voice that suits their preferences could enhance their experience and make interactions more comfortable and engaging.
