President Asif Ali Zardari expressed condolence at the passing away of the 28 Pakistani pilgrims in a bus accident in Iran. In a tweet, he requested the Foreign Ministry to facilitate the victims.
“President Asif Ali Zardari expressed his heartfelt grief over the tragic accident of the bus of Pakistani pilgrims in Iran The President expressed his regret over the loss of precious lives President’s prayer for forgiveness for the deceased, patience for the family members The President’s directive to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to bring the dead to Pakistan and provide timely aid to the injured,” read a statement issued by the PPP’s Media Cell on X.
Earlier today, Pakistan’s Ambassador to Iran shared the tragic news on his X account. “In pursuit of their religious journey, 28 Pakistani zaireen laid down their lives last night in Yazd city in bus accident. Another 23 are injured,” Pakistan’s Ambassador to Iran Mudassir Tipu said in a post on X.
“I have no words to express grief but I can assure [you] that I will do my very best for repatriation of those who passed away […] and look after the injured ones,” Tipu added.
The bus carrying Pakistani passengers met an accident 700 kilometers away from the Pakistani Embassy. The bus overturned and caught fire at the Taftan-Dehshir checkpoint. According to the Envoy accident happened due to overspeeding and brake failure.
“Embassy officials have already left for Yazd this morning. An officer in Zahedan is overseeing emergency arrangements,” the ambassador further said. “We thank Iran for extending excellent cooperation. We kindly request your support and patience in this hour of grief,” Tipu said.

The bus was carrying a total of 53 passengers and met the accident last night. 30 people died on the spot while five succumbed to their injuries in the hospital. 10 people hailed from Khairpur and Kashmore.

Iran’s Ambassador to Pakistan Reza Amiri Moghadam expressed condolence to Pakistan on the tragic loss of lives.
“I extend my heartfelt condolences to the government and people of Pakistan especially those families who lost loved ones. I wish for the safe and speedy recovery of the injured,” Moghadam said in a post on X.
He said he was in “constant contact with the relevant authorities in Iran” and had “insisted for the speedy supply of the necessary services to the injured, including healthcare” as well as the return of the bodies to Pakistan.
