Federal Investigative Agency (FIA) arrests Orya Maqbool Jan from his residence in Lahore on Thursday. His lawyer Azhar Siddique confirmed his arrest. He is being arrested for tweeting on the Mubarak Sani case.
Advocate Mian Ali Ashfaq asserted that he has been arrested by the FIA’s Cybercrime wing and is being kept at the Gulberg office. He will be presented before the judicial magistrate today.
“The FIA has no authority in this case, we will present strong arguments”, advocate Ashfaq said. “We are not being told details of the first information report (FIR).”
The Supreme Court of Pakistan is reviewing a previous decision related to religious freedom. The Punjab government is asking the court to reconsider a February 6th ruling that said religious freedom is not absolute and can be limited by law, morality, and public order.
The government’s request came after some religious leaders and lawmakers expressed concerns about certain parts of the earlier judgment. They believe these parts need to be corrected. The Supreme Court has agreed to hear the case and will decide whether to change its previous ruling.

The Punjab government is arguing that the Supreme Court made a mistake in its earlier ruling. They say that some parts of the decision don’t agree with previous court rulings.
On Monday, there were protests against the Supreme Court’s decision. A group of people tried to break into the Supreme Court building. The police used force to stop them.
Before the protest, the protesters had gathered in a different area and started making speeches against the court’s decision.
