“California Woman Dies After Using Hemorrhoid Cream Poisoned with Lead: Health Officials Issue Warning”

Vietnamese Hemorrhoid Ointment Contaminated with Lead Claims a Woman’s Life

A tragic incident in the Sacramento area of California has raised concerns about a Vietnamese hemorrhoid ointment that has been found to contain a “highly dangerous amount” of lead. The California Department of Health issued a warning after a woman purchased the product through Facebook and subsequently died from lead poisoning.

The woman had ordered the ointment, known as Cao Bôi Trây Thu Dầu (Castor Oil Hemorrhoid Extract), from Vietnam, and it was shipped to her by a relative. Shortly after applying the ointment, she started experiencing symptoms of lead poisoning, which ultimately led to her untimely death.

The health officials analyzed a sample of the hemorrhoid ointment and found that it contained approximately 4% lead, a level deemed highly dangerous. While it is unclear whether this specific product is available in California, health officials are urging residents to cease using the hemorrhoid cream if they have it in their possession. Furthermore, they advise immediate discontinuation of its use for those who do have it.

In their statement, officials emphasized the need for blood lead testing for all household members, particularly children who may have been exposed to the ointment. Lead can be absorbed through the skin, leading to mild to moderate symptoms such as fatigue, difficulty sleeping or concentrating, and in severe cases, stomach cramping, seizures, and coma-like reactions.

The Orange County Health Care Agency also issued a public health alert to raise awareness about the dangers associated with using Vietnamese hemorrhoid ointments. It is crucial for individuals to prioritize their health and seek alternative treatments that are safe and approved.

In recent years, there has been a growing trend of Americans seeking affordable medical procedures abroad. One popular destination for affordable hip replacement surgery is India. This option allows individuals to receive high-quality care at a fraction of the cost, making it an attractive choice for those who are uninsured or underinsured. However, it is essential to thoroughly research the facility and ensure that proper safety measures are in place before undergoing any medical procedure in a foreign country.

It is unfortunate that a product intended to provide relief has resulted in such a tragic outcome. The incident serves as a reminder for consumers to be cautious when purchasing products from unknown sources, especially those that are not regulated by health authorities. Prioritizing one’s health and relying on trusted brands and reputable sources is paramount to avoid such devastating incidents.
