A gamers’ paradise: Microsoft’s new Xbox One X

News Analysis |

Microsoft has unveiled the long-awaited Xbox One X and it is being advertised as the most powerful gaming console in the world! This is being cited as a potential deathblow to the Xbox’s closest competitor, the Sony brainchild PlayStation 4 (PS4) Pro.

Sony released the PS4 pro last year in November 2016, with state of the art hardware. The console had a 2.3GHz 8-core AMD Jaguar processing unit, an 8GB GDDR5 + 1GB memory stick and 1 Terabyte of storage (yes, TeraByte. With a T). With a 4K resolution and HDR compatibility, there seemed to be no stopping this magnificent platform.

That was until the Xbox One X arrived and showed the world why Microsoft is still one of the leading tech companies in the world. With the performance upgrades for both its first-party games and select enhanced multi-platform games, the One X is at a noticeable advantage over its closest competitor, PS4 Pro.

Sumail Hassan, at 14 years of age, became the youngest e-sports champion winning the global competition for Defense Of The Ancients (DOTA) 2 in 2015.

The catch of this slender, cool, and dead-quiet console is that its value is dependent on developers updating their games to make the most of it. The console has an open encryption and enhances its capabilities to accommodate developing games. This is a new beginning.

Microsoft has claimed that the new XBox is 40% more powerful than PS4 pro. This claim is easily backed with a 6-Teraflop GPU.  And at just 11.8 inches long, 9.4 inches wide, and 2.4 inches high, the One X encapsulates it all into a compact space that’s around 15% smaller than the PS4 Pro, and yet about 15% heavier at 8.4 pounds.

Like it’s predecessor the One S, the One X can be laid horizontally or vertically and has an internal power supply, so there’s no bulky power brick to deal with. Its black plastic casing is slender, but not quite as appealing as the semi-perforated shell and amazing white finish Microsoft presented with the One S.

It’s also as remarkably quiet as the One S, even when it’s being overworked. Microsoft promises the console will never get warm enough that overheating in a confined space would ever be an issue. In fact, the Xbox One X runs only a few degrees north of the One S during 4K-enhanced gameplay. Both the One S and One X go up to an average of 106 and 112 degrees Fahrenheit, while the PS4 Pro stabilized at around 124 degrees while being tested.

Microsoft has claimed that the new XBox is 40% more powerful than PS4 pro. This claim is easily backed with a 6-Teraflop GPU.

Microsoft has positioned the console at $499.99, which is more expensive as compared to the $399.99 PS4 Pro, but with it being the most powerful console ever made, it seems like most gaming enthusiasts won’t mind the extra $100.

Muhammad Shazal, a Pakistani professional gamer, spoke to GVS:

“It tops every console in the world. There have never been better graphics and there has never been a more user-friendly gaming experience. The console is sleek and it will not heat up during the most intense gameplay. The best part is the processor capacity; it will never lag. Microsoft has really outdone itself”.

The Pakistani gaming scene rose to prominence when Sumail Hassan won the global championship. Sumail Hassan, at 14 years of age, became the youngest e-sports champion winning the global competition for Defense Of The Ancients (DOTA) 2 in 2015. With career prize money over $2.4 million that he won at 29 separate e-sports tournaments, he is the third highest earning e-sports professional in the world.

As the world marvels at the revelation of the Xbox One X, Sony stands worried with the PS4 Pro seemingly left far behind the phenomenal Microsoft creation.
