A much-needed city car in Pakistan: Hyundai i10

Even though South Korean Hyundai is gaining market traction in the crossover, sedan section of Pakistan, the absence of a cheaper city car like Hyundai i10 is ignoring the biggest section of Pakistan’s population, which cannot buy the expensive cars offered by the company.

Hyundai-Nishat Motor Pvt. Ltd. is now an established name in Pakistan’s automobile industry starting with their Crossover Tucson to launching the latest sedan Sonata. However, most of the cars launched by the company yet are for the upper class of the country, and no city car like Hyundai’s sister company KIA’s Picanto has been launched, that is affordable for the majority of the country.

One such car should be Hyundai i10, a city car produced by the South Korean manufacturer since 2007. The third generation of the car was unveiled in India on 7 August 2019 and launched on 20 August 2019. The hatchback is offered in 10 variants across petrol and diesel engines as well as manual and automatic transmissions.

So let us look at the features of one of the premium versions of the i10.

Engine

The car features a 1197-liter petrol engine with 84 horsepower at 6000 rpm, with torque of 114Nm at 4000 rpm. It is a front-wheel drive with two variants, manual and auto multi-point injection systems.

Exterior

The car is a 5-serater hatchback, and its dimensions are 3765x1660x1520 mm, with a wheelbase of 2425mm, fuel tank capacity of 43 liters and the boot space of 256 liters.

It has a standard two-box shape when seen from the side, and roof line remains high all the way to the back of the vehicle, giving enough headroom to the backseat passengers to sit comfortably. The sportier look of the car was rather tried to be achieved by raising the waistline of the side windows in the rear seats, however that makes it uncomfortable for children who might not be able to see out of the car.

At the back too, there is no distinguishing features.

Even though there is no confirmation of the company launching i10 in Pakistan, we hope they add an affordable city car like i10 in their collection to target the biggest chunk of country’s population.
