Abida Parveen, Atif Aslam included in the World’s 500 Influential Muslims list

“Parveen is an internationally acclaimed vocalist, often referred to as ‘the Queen of Sufi mystic singing’. She is the only woman to reach this level of influence in devotional music,” states the publication.

Pakistan’s legendary Sufi singer, Abida Parveen made it to the list of The World 500 Most Influential Muslims issued by The Royal Islamic Strategic Studies Centre of Jordan. The list also features youngest noble laureate Malala Yousafzai and Pakistani-Canadian filmmaker, Sharmeed Obaid Chinoy.

The list includes Pakistan’s ace singer Atif Aslam. According to the list, Atif Aslam has the 19th most popular social media presence that is held by a Muslim.

Several Pakistanis including globally renowned figures from entertainment, art, and culture, education, philanthropy, Islamic scholars, social activists have made it to the list.

The magazine included singer Abida Parveen in the category of Most Influential Muslim in Arts and Culture. “Parveen is an internationally acclaimed vocalist, often referred to as ‘the Queen of Sufi mystic singing’. She is the only woman to reach this level of influence in devotional music,” states the publication.

The Influential Muslim list also mentioned journalist and filmmaker, Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy in the same category. “Initially known for her film work highlighting women’s rights, she has gone on to win two Oscars, six Emmy awards for her films (three personally), the Livingston Award for Young Journalists, and became the first artist to co-chair the World Economic Forum,” wrote the publication.

Besides, Islamic scholars like Maulana Tariq Jameel and Mufti Taqi Usmani also made it to the list. “He is the leading scholar for the Deobandis and in Islamic finance,” the publication wrote about Mufti Taqi Usmani. Further added that he has authored 143 books in Arabic, English, and Urdu.

Prime Minister Imran Khan has been declared Man of the Year by The Muslim 500. The magazine accorded Imran Khan the Man of the Year Award. America’s Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib is termed Woman of the Year.

The Jordanian magazine ranks Influential Muslim leaders every year in its annual list. This is the 11th list issued by the premier publication. The magazine says had there been The Muslim 500 back in 1992, Imran Khan would have been the Man of the Year 1992 due to his magnificent performance in the cricket, leading Pakistan towards 1992 Cricket World Cup triumph.
