Accountability Process: Shahbaz’s son in the crosshairs

News Desk |

In a letter written to Interior Ministry, National Accountability Bureau has requested to place the names of Hamza Shahbaz and Salman Shahbaz on Exit Control List. The step highlights the speeding up of the accountability process in the country.

“NAB has recommended to the ministry to place the names of Hamza Shahbaz and Salman Shahbaz on the ECL,” a NAB spokesman said in a statement issued on Friday.

The major hope the nation has from the PTI-led government is the eradication of corruption, be it financial, moral or authority misuse.

Both sons of PMLN president Shahbaz Sharif are being investigated by NAB for constructing a bridge allegedly facilitating their Ramzan Sugar Mills in Chiniot. NAB claims that Rs 200m from the national exchequer was approved by the then Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif for the construction of the bridge.

NAB is also probing both brothers for assets beyond their known source of income. Hamza Shahbaz is also being investigated in the Saaf Paani company case for presiding over the board of directors meetings and issuing contract awards when he was not even the member of the board.

Hamza, opposition leader of Punjab Assembly, appeared before the NAB last week and three deputy directors of NAB from the intelligence, prosecution, and investigation wings questioned him. However, Salman Shahbaz has failed to appear before NAB for the last three hearings as he has been in London.

Shahbaz Sharif, the father of two, has already been in the custody of NAB since October 5 in connection to the Ashiana Iqbal Housing Scheme case.

The top leadership of PMLN has been investigated by the watchdog. Nawaz Sharif, Shahbaz Sharif, Maryam Nawaz, Ishaq Dar, Khawaja Saad Rafique, and many other members of PMLN are under the radar of accountability body for their alleged corruption and misuse of authority. Now the recommendation of NAB to put the name of Hamza and Salman on ECL shows that watchdog is not going to let the corrupt mafia slip away whatsoever.
