Ousted Pakistani batter Umar Akmal pleads his case in front of the Sharif family regarding his comeback to the team.
In a TV show recently, Umar Akmal said that After Allah, he has faith in the Sharif family. The cricketer based in Lahore called the Sharif family in a desperate call for a comeback in the Pakistan Cricket Team.
During an interview with Samaa TV on Monday, Umar Akmal said: “Everyone has personal connections. I am thankful to Nawaz Sharif and Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz for always giving me time.”
He complained that “There were some problems in my life which bothered me, I was not allowed to play cricket for a long time. The seniors in the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) are getting personal with me. I showed my performance to Maryam Nawaz and requested she to give me a chance. If I get a chance, I will make a comeback in international cricket.”
Last year, Umar Akmal met Nawaz Sharif in London. Nawaz Sharif and cricketer Umar Akmal held a meeting at Sharif’s London residence, igniting speculation about Akmal’s potential return to the national cricket team. The middle-order batter, who has been absent from international cricket since 2019, used this occasion to make a fervent plea to Nawaz Sharif for another chance to don the Pakistani jersey.
A video circulating on Twitter captured Umar Akmal leaving Nawaz Sharif’s residence, hinting at the discussions that transpired behind closed doors. In his statement following the meeting, Akmal expressed his gratitude for the time afforded to him by Nawaz Sharif, acknowledging the honor of the encounter. However, Akmal remained tight-lipped about the specifics of his request, leaving room for speculation about his intentions.
