Air Karachi seeks license to launch domestic operations

New private airline Air Karachi has submitted an application to the Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority for a Regular Public Transport license to launch operations in various cities of the country.

Sources within the PCAA says, the authority will decide to issue an RPT license after approval from the federal government.

Upon receiving the license, Air Karachi will launch its operations countrywide. The business community of Karachi had earlier announced the launch of Air Karachi.

Hanif Gohar, a businessman, had announced that Air Karachi will begin operations with an initial investment of Rs 5 billion with each shareholder contributing RS 50 million.

Former Southern Commander Air Vice Marshal (retd) Imran has been appointed as the CEO of Air Karachi.

Key shareholders of Air Karachi include Aqeel Karim Dhedhi, Arif Habib, SM Tanveer, Bashir Jan Muhammad, Khalid Tawab, Zubair Tufail, and Hamza Tabani.

Back in September, three local airlines had approached PCAA for license and permits. These airlines include Go Green Air, Q Airways, and Jet Green.

Air Indus had also approached PCAA to resume flight operations. Q Aviation, Liberty Air have also applied for the license to launch flight operations in Pakistan.

PCAA has termed the significant interest of local investors in the aviation industry as a sign of increased economic activity.

Meanwhile, activities are also picking up for national carrier, PIA as it resumes direct flight operations to Europe. It is also in process of resuming flight operations to USA, Canada and UK as well.

As per report, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration to settle pending financial obligations.

According to DG CAA Nadir Shafi Dar, payments to the FAA are expected to be made soon to expedite the process. The FAA delegation will be visiting Pakistan in February or mid-March.
