Ali Amin Gandapur reappears in KP assembly after disappearance

Ali Amin Gandapur leading a protesting rally at D-Chowk, Islamabad, went to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa House in Islamabad after reaching the spot.

Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ali Amin Gandapur made a dramatic appearance on the floor of the KP assembly after remaining mysteriously disappeared for more than a day.

Ali Amin Gandapur leading a protesting rally at D-Chowk, Islamabad, went to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa House in Islamabad after reaching the spot. A few moments later, news of his arrest by Rangers from KP House emerged. Since then, the whereabouts of Gandapur remained unknown. PTI declared him a ‘missing person’ and warned that they would start a massive protest if Gandapur is not released soon.

Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi clarified the situation: “Ali Amin Gandapur is not in the custody of any federal agency. He has chosen to go into hiding of his own accord,” he said, though this statement only added to the confusion.

A video footage was released that showed Gandapur entering and leaving the KP House. The footages were quickly busted by the PTI who showed that the man leaving the KP House in the footage is not the Chief Minister but a provincial minister.

A day after the remaining disappeared, Gandapur appeared in the KP Assembly on Sunday. In his speech, he accused IG Islamabad of the attack on KP House. He said the property of KP House was damaged and that he will make sure, IG Islamabad not only pays for the damages but also gets them repaired.

He denied that he was abducted. However, delivering a fiery speech on the floor of the assembly he said, “A historic chapter has been written, and now they are trying to erase it.”

“The K-P House is our property, and they shelled and fired upon it. What gives them the right to treat it like this?” he asked.

“Why are they so afraid? We requested permission for a rally in Lahore, but they didn’t even allow us to hold it at Minar-e-Pakistan. Are we animals? They want us to hold rallies in cattle markets,” asked Gandapur.

He concluded with a defiant message: “They thought we wouldn’t make it to D-Chowk, but we did. This is not just about me or PTI; it’s about Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and its rightful place in the federation.”
