Renowned playwright Anwar Maqsood addressed the rumors regarding his abduction following his recent controversial marks regarding the martyrs.
Addressing a public event a few days ago, a short video clip of Anwar Maqsood passing comments on the martyrs and Pakistan Navy went viral on social media. He said martyrs of the Pakistan Navy should be held in the highest regard as they are martyred from drowning.
His comments caused an uproar on social media as netizens called out Maqsood for mocking the martyrs. Following the incident, rumors of his abduction went viral on social media. The recent events forced him to address the incident in his latest appearance at Urdu Conference.
“I have been writing for 70 years and could never think of mocking martyrs,” he said while addressing a session at the International Urdu Conference in Karachi which concluded on Sunday.
“Since last night, my relatives have been receiving calls from around the world asking if the news is true that Anwar has been taken away.”
“I want to say that I have been writing and reading books for sixty years. I cannot joke about martyrs; I am alive because of them. They have given their lives for me, and I write in their honor,” Maqsood said and apologized if his comments harmed anyone.

“I cannot even think of saying anything against them. I might speak about the living, but I will not do so in the future. If I have caused anyone pain, I sincerely apologize,” he said further.
