Apple’s latest event wasn’t just about the new iPhones. The tech giant also introduced significant updates to its smartwatch lineup, unveiling the Apple Watch Series 10 and the Apple Watch Ultra 2. These new models bring substantial changes to both form and function, further cementing Apple’s status in the wearable tech market.
Apple Watch Series 10: Bigger and Better
The Apple Watch Series 10 makes a bold statement as the largest and thinnest Apple Watch to date. Featuring a screen that is up to 30% larger than previous non-Ultra models, the Series 10 offers more screen space without sacrificing its sleek profile. The enhanced display also supports a higher refresh rate, moving from once per minute to once per second, making features like the Always On Display more dynamic. This improvement enables the watch to display a ticking second hand on selected watch faces, while also delivering 40% more brightness when viewed at an angle.

Charging speed, a common pain point for many smartwatch users, has also seen a boost. The Series 10 can now reach 80% battery capacity in just 30 minutes, compared to 45 minutes for the previous model. Supporting both MagSafe and Qi 2 charging standards, Apple has addressed convenience and speed in one stroke.
New Focus on Materials and Durability
A notable change in the Series 10 is Apple’s decision to discontinue stainless steel in favor of titanium. This shift makes the new model 20% lighter than its predecessor. Available in three colors—Natural, Gold, and Slate Gray—the titanium case brings a premium feel that was previously reserved for higher-end models. Accessories like the Milanese loop and Link Bracelet have been redesigned to match the new titanium finish, with a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal protecting the display.
The Series 10 also features improved water resistance, with an advanced depth gauge that automatically activates upon submersion and tracks dives up to 6 meters (20 feet). The inclusion of a water temperature sensor further enhances its appeal to water sports enthusiasts.
Health Monitoring and Smart Features
The health monitoring capabilities of the Series 10 have been expanded, now including sleep apnea detection. The watch provides detailed morning reports on breathing disturbances during sleep and assesses long-term sleep health risks based on accumulated data. The device is powered by the new Apple S10 chip, which includes a 4-core neural engine for on-device AI processing. This technology supports features like contextual widgets and optimized background photo selection.
Moreover, the Series 10 introduces a new, smaller speaker module, allowing users to listen to music or podcasts directly from the watch, as well as make calls with AI-powered noise cancellation for clearer sound.
Apple Watch Ultra 2: A Fresh Look
While the Apple Watch Ultra 2 does not feature as many changes as the Series 10, it does come with a new Satin Black finish, achieved through a specialized process that enhances scratch resistance. Like the Series 10, it uses 95% recycled grade 5 titanium, making it durable and environmentally friendly. The Ultra 2 also introduces a Titanium Milanese Loop band, designed specifically for scuba divers, adding a touch of rugged elegance.
