Aseefa Bhutto drives Turkish President Erdogan, sparks debate

Aseefa Bhutto Zardari shares her experience of driving President Erdogan, receiving mixed reactions on social media regarding women's empowerment and political privilege.

Aseefa Bhutto shares her pictures and videos of driving the visiting Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

Video shows President Asif Ali Zardari was seated at the back in the car. She drove President Recep Tayyip Erdogan after receiving him at the Nur Khan Airbase in Rawalpindi.

Sharing the pictures and videos of her driving from the airport, Aseefa said: “An unforgettable moment driving President @RTErdogan during his visit to Pakistan. Very mindful while in the driving seat with two Presidents as passengers, but not a moment I will ever forget.”

Aseefa’s gesture for driving President Erdogan has sparked a heated debate on social media, garnering both praise and criticism. On one hand, her supporters and followers appreciated her move, labeling it as a statement against patriarchal stereotypes and a powerful message of women’s empowerment in Pakistan. By taking the wheel, Aseefa is perceived as breaking down barriers and challenging traditional gender roles.

Meanwhile, critics have denounced these gestures as a reflection of nepotism and elitism deeply ingrained in the political culture of Pakistan. They argued that Aseefa’s actions, rather than promoting women’s empowerment, actually highlight the privilege and influence that comes with being a member of the elite class and that it has little relevance for women belonging to marginalized backgrounds.
