Asim Abassi set to impress audiences with new movie after Cake

News Desk |

Pakistani director Asim Abassi impressed critics and audiences alike, earlier this year, through the release of his movie Cake. Cake, which released worldwide this March, has been generating buzz since its release and despite the movie being an indie film, it has played out well with audiences generating Rs 12 crore as of this post. Now the director is set to bring three new movies to life.

With people calling Cake the best Pakistani movie ever made, it’s no surprise that more and more people are eager to work with Asim Abassi. The production companies behind the first movie ZAB Films and B4U Motion Pictures have already made a deal with Abbasi for his next three films. The movies will be a blend of comedy, thriller, and drama. The first of the three will possibly be released sometime next year and is said to be a coming-of-age story.

Sunil Shah, Head of Film at B4U Motion Pictures said: “We are always looking to nurture talent and build long-term relationships with producers, and are delighted to be collaborating once again with the creative minds behind Cake with the aim of delivering wholesome entertainment to audiences”.

“Sayed and I have a unified vision for Pakistani Cinema – positioning our films on the world stage by telling culturally specific stories with a universal resonance, and giving cinemagoers diverse content to choose from. B4U has been a pioneer in bringing Pakistani films to an international audience, making this partnership a natural fit.

Cake a family drama featuring an ensemble cast of Aamina Shiekh, Sanam Saeed, Adnan Malik, Faris Khalid, Beo Raana, Mohammad Ahmed and Mikaal Zulfiqar, was Abbasi’s debut film and was a semiautobiographical account of his own family situation. The movie revolved around two estranged sisters who reunite due to the health issues of their father. In March 2018 the film became the first Pakistani movie to premiere at Leicester Square where both local and foreign media was present. The film earned Abbasi the Best Director award at the UK Asian Film Festival London.
