A score of Pakistani celebrities rallied in support of Turkish actress Esra Bilgic after actor Yasir Hussain slammed the Pakistani local brand for hiring a Turkish celebrity as the brand ambassador.
The news of a Pakistani brand Qmobile hiring the Turkish actress Esra Bilgic triggered discontentment among a few Pakistani celebrities. Actor Yasir Hussain in his Instagram post slammed the brand for overlooking the local talent and hiring a foreign celebrity. He named a score of Pakistani female celebrities the brand could have hired.

“Don’t you think a Pakistani brand should have a Pakistani ambassador? Not Indian or Turkish?” he said. Adding on, Yasir named local actors who he deemed worthy enough for the spot. “Is Mahira, Saba, Sonya, Minal, Aiman, Amar, Zara, Haniya, Sana, Yumna, Armeena, Sara, Hira… anyone not worthy enough to be a brand ambassador for a Pakistani brand?”

In the conclusion of his Instagram post, he urged his fan and followers to support Pakistani artists. Meanwhile, celebrity sisters, Aiman and Minal Khan also endorsed the call of Yasir Hussain. “Right,” wrote Aiman as she shared Yasir’s post. Doing the same Mina wrote,” Yes because why not Yasir.”

Will Dirilis Ertugrul threaten the local industry?
Yasir Hussain is among the league of selected Pakistani artists who objected to the broadcast of the Turkish serial, Dirilis Ertugrul on the state television, PTV.
He argued that soon foreign entertainment content and celebrities will swarm the local entertainment industry of Pakistan. And this would destroy the local entertainment industry and celebrities. Yasir Hussain vehemently opposed the broadcast of Dirilis Ertugrul on PTV. He even demanded a ban on its airing on a Pakistani channel.
He went on to say that the decision of PTV to air the Turkish serial is against the national interest and threaten the career of local actors. Even actress, Mansha Pasha had agreed with the argument of Yasir Hussain.

Lollywood actor Shaan Shahid had also expressed his disillusionment with the broadcast of a Dirilis Ertugrul on PTV. While Shaan lauded the content and performances of the Turkish actors, its raging success among the Pakistani audiences and its broadcast on PTV had upset the Pakistani actor.

Yasir Hussain confronted backlash for criticism on Dirilis Ertugrul
The broadcast of Dirilis Ertugrul in Pakistan in May had stirred up a massive controversy in the country. But since Pakistani celebrities stand divided on the subject-many of them including Mehwish Hayat, Saba Qamar, Osman Khalid Butt, Anoushey Ashraf had vouched for the broadcast of the serial in Pakistan. The bevy of artists supporting the broadcast of Dirilis Ertugrul in Pakistan called for the improvement in the local content to be able to compete with the foreign content.
Yasir Hussain again confronted a backlash from a score of Pakistani celebrities for objecting to the local brand- Qmobile hiring Turkish actress Esra Bilgic.
Actor Agha Ali and Anoushey Ashraf supported Esra Bilgic. Agha Ali in an Instagram post said that local celebrities should not feel threatened by foreign celebrities working in Pakistan. He said that Turkish actors have equal rights to work in Pakistan similar to Pakistani celebrities like Mahira Khan, Saba Qamar and Atif Aslam have the right to work in the Indian media industry. Hence, we should be welcoming Turkish celebrities and ensure they have a memorable experience while working in Pakistan.
