ASP Shehrbano Naqvi strong candidate to lead PCB women’s cricket

Naqvi gained prominence following her intervention in the incident involving a woman accused of blasphemy in a crowded market in Lahore.

Pakistan Cricket Board is considering appointing former Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Shehrbano Naqvi as the PCB’s head of women’s cricket.

Shehrbano Naqvi is a strong candidate to take over the position following the exit of former PCB head of women’s cricket Tania Malik. PCB is currently evaluating candidates to head the women’s cricket department, aiming to fill the vacancy created by Tania’s exit in October 2021.

Naqvi gained prominence following her intervention in the incident involving a woman accused of blasphemy in a crowded market in Lahore. She rescued the woman from a violent attack. The leadership role in Pakistan women’s cricket became available after Tania, who had held the position since October 2021, announced her resignation.

Not just Tania Malik but Sohaib Sheikh also resigned from his role in PCB. Malik had assumed the charge in 2021 at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. Sohaib returned to the PCB 13 months ago after previously working with the organization from 2016 to 2019.

PCB appreciated the efforts and hard work of both the officials in its statement. PCB COO Salman Naseer both of them in his statement.

“Sohaib Sheikh and Tania Mallick were key members of the PCB management team, making meaningful contributions to our progress as an organization. Sohaib was part of the core team that launched the HBL PSL in 2016, successfully delivering four seasons, and he returned to produce another high-quality event earlier this year.

“Tania worked with dedication to uplift women’s cricket in Pakistan, making strides at the grassroots level to expand the pool of players. Alongside PCB’s ongoing support, her efforts were recognized internationally by the ICC, where she served as one of the two Full Member representatives on the ICC Women’s Committee.

“The PCB appreciates their hard work, dedication, and contributions, and we wish both Sohaib and Tania every success in their future endeavors,” said Naseer in his statement.

The reports of ASP Shehrbano PCB taking over the PCB received mixed responses on social media. Being a police officer, some of the netizens have questioned her abilities and skills to run the affairs at PCB.
