Awn Chaudhry becomes adviser to PM Shehbaz Sharif

His status will be equal to the status of a federal minister. President Arif Alvi approved his appointment on the advice of PM Shehbaz Sharif.

PTI dissident Awn Chaudhry has been appointed as Adviser to PM Shehbaz Sharif on tourism and sports. The notification of his appointment was issued on Tuesday.

According to the reports, his status will be equal to the status of a federal minister. President Arif Alvi approved his appointment on the advice of PM Shehbaz Sharif. It is pertinent to mention that Awn Chaudhry is a member of the Jehangir Tareen group who had parted ways from PTI but are still members of the party.

Jehangir Tareen had supported the PDM against the No-Confidence Motion presented against PM Imran Khan in National Assembly and former Chief Minister Punjab Usman Buzdar. Tareen group had supported Hamza Shehbaz for the next chief minister of Punjab.

PML-N and Awn Chaudhry bury the hatchet

Awn Chaudhry has faced severe criticism from PMLN for his misconduct earlier. Now, PMLN is being criticized for joining hands with Awn Chaudhry just to topple the government of PTI and Imran Khan.

Earlier there were reports that Awn Chaudhry is writing a book on Imran Khan. One of Pakistan’s leading journalists Mubasher Lucman told the news on Twitter. He also said that the book will have a huge impact on PTI supporters.

“I just heard Mr. Aoun Chaudhry is writing a book on his days with PTI. If he writes all that he knows, then that will be earth-shattering for supporters of PTI,” Mubasher Lucman wrote.

To clarify, Awn Chaudhry used to serve as Special Coordinator to Chief Minister Punjab on Political Affairs. But he resigned when he was asked to disassociate himself from the Jahangir Tareen group or step down from the post. This was in 2021, and Usman Buzdar was the Chief Minister.

In his resignation letter, Awn Chaudhry expressed anger over the treatment meted out to him by the party whom he said he had served selflessly.
