Director Ayan Mukherji and Producer Karan Johar have started working on a new star struck project. The movie began with a working title called ‘Dragon’, but has now changed its course with a final title of ‘Brahmastra’ and features celebrated actors like Amitabh Bachchan, Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt. The social handle saw its first announcement last year on October 11, while the official preparations commenced in January this year.
Brahmastra is set to be an adventure film released as a trilogy, with the first of the three, on August 15, 2019.
It revolves around Brahma – a Hindu God and a believed creator of the universe – who procures an unopposed historic weapon, called Brahmastra.
Ayan told the media in October last year, “It’s a modern-day film set in India as it exists today. But the reason it’s called Brahmastra is because the energies, wisdom, powers in the film come from ancient India. That’s all I would say. There are some costumes, which may be not the way you’d expect them to be.”
The project has been making headlines since its conception and the latest news making rounds is the budding relationship between Ranbir and Alia. Both made an entrance together at Sonam Kapoor’s wedding last month, which aroused the curiosity of many.

However, recently, in an interview with GQ India magazine, Ranbir said, “It’s really new right now, and I don’t want to over speak. It needs time to breathe and it needs space. As an actor, as a person, Alia is – what’s the right word? – flowing right now. When I see her work, when I see her act, even in life, what she gives is something that I’m aspiring to for myself. It’s new for us, so let it cook a bit.”
Apart from all the noises, the team which completed its first schedule in Bulgaria is now getting ready for the second schedule.
A source says that an ambitious budget of Rs. 150 crores was set for the movie, but that has now been exceeded to a whopping 250 crore in hopes of paralleling the standards of large scale Hollywood movies. Co-producer Namit Malhotra shared how the budget is immaterial in eyes, as long as the project reproduces their vision. The fantasy flick is also said to be released in 3D to improve the audience’s cinematic appearance.
It was reported that actor Ranbir Kapoor underwent vigorous martial art training for the film, while others too have been training intensely.
The young actor is also set to be seen in an upcoming biopic called ‘Sanju’, based on Sanjay Dutt’s life, this June.

Alia Bhatt, who plays the female lead in the movie, recently, shared a picture of the team ‘Brahmastra’ while preparing for their next schedule at Amitabh Bachchan’s residence, calling him their ‘captain’, referencing to the poem ‘O Captain, My Captain’ by Walt Whitman. Karan Johar also posted the same photo, calling Bachchan a ‘legend.’ It looks like the team is as excited as they are devoted to the upcoming film!
