In Baluchistan, three people were killed and four others injured on Wednesday night in a forest fire raging in Zhob’s Sherani district.
The fire which has engulfed thousands of pine nut trees has not been brought under control even in 10 days.

According to Dawn, deputy commissioner of Sherani Ijaz Ahmed said the three persons died after burning pine nuts fell on them.
Reportedly, the injured have been shifted to Civil Hospital Zhob, and their condition was stable. Meanwhile, an emergency has been declared in hospitals across the district.

“Although a group of local volunteers rushed to the mountainous area to bring the fire under control, they failed to do anything in the face of the ferocious blaze,” Dawn reported.
It cited the deputy commissioner as saying, “The huge fire has spread to an area within a radius of seven kilometres from the point of origin.”

“The administration pressed in helicopters to douse the fire, but to no avail.”
The official added, “Rain is our only hope now.”
He expressed fears that the fire could envelop more areas and could stretch as far as the southern swathes of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. “The Balochistan government should ask the National Disaster Management Authority and other federal institutions to help control the fire.”
