Bold move as PTI submits no-trust motion against own PA deputy speaker

The move comes after Deputy Speaker Dost Muhammad Mazari decided to summon a session today, instead of April 16. Reacting to the development, former SAPM Dr. Shahbaz Gill said that PTI members will not attend today's session.

In a bold move, PTI has submitted a no-confidence motion against the Deputy Speaker of the Punjab Assembly. Important to note, Dost Muhammad Mazari is a PTI-backed deputy speaker to the secretary of the provincial assembly.

According to details, the resolution against Mazari contained the signatures of PTI’s provincial assembly members. They submitted it on the basis of distrust against him.

The move comes after Deputy Speaker Dost Muhammad Mazari decided to summon a session today, instead of April 16. While speaking to the media, Dost Mazari said that the secretariat staff of the Punjab Assembly was not “cooperating” with him.

Moreover, as per media reports, he said that the advocate-general of Punjab had stated before the Supreme Court that the session will be held today.

“I did not consult the Punjab government, PTI, or the speaker. I summoned the Assembly session in light of the Supreme Court’s orders,” said Mazari.

Following the submission of the motion, PML-Q said that Deputy Speaker Mazari is “no longer authorized” to summon a session.

Reacting to the development, former SAPM Dr. Shahbaz Gill said that PTI members will not attend today’s session.

“PTI members will not attend today’s meeting of the Punjab Assembly. Instead, they will attend the April 16 meeting,” Dr. Shahbaz Gill tweeted. Furthermore, made accusations of Opposition buying dates as well.

Number game in Punjab

To clarify, currently, all eyes are on electing the next Chief Minister of Punjab. Regarding this, the Punjab Assembly adjourned the session until April 6, then postponed it to April 16th shortly after. However, earlier today, the PA Deputy Speaker called a provincial assembly session to elect a new chief minister of the province today at 7:30 pm.

Important to note, PTI’s candidate for Punjab Chief Minister is PML-Q Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi. Meanwhile, PML-N chose Hamza Shehbaz. Both candidates need at least 186 votes in the House of 371 to win the poll for the slot of CM Punjab.

The Opposition is optimistic that it will win as it claims to have more than 188 MPAs. The Opposition MPAs include PML-N, PPP, and the rest of the PTI rebel groups.
