Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan received flak on Indian social media for meeting the Turkish First Lady Emine Erdogan.

Soon the images of Aamir Khan meeting Emine Erdogan went viral on social media that brought the actor and First Lady under severe criticism on Indian Twitter. Moreover, Emine Erdogan also shared the images on her Twitter account.

“I had the great pleasure of meeting @aamir_khan, the world-renowned Indian actor, filmmaker, and director, in Istanbul. I was happy to learn that Aamir decided to wrap up the shooting of his latest movie ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’ in different parts of Turkey. I look forward to it!” she wrote.

Aamir Khan meets Emine Erdogan

Actor Aamir Khan is on an official visit to Turkey to complete the shooting of his upcoming movie, Laal Singh Chaddha that also stars Kareena Kapoor. Pandemic coronavirus had halted the shooting of the movie. Hence, the team of movie Laal Singh Chaddha resumed the shooting following the ease in lockdown restrictions globally.

The viral pictures of Aamir Khan meeting Turkish First Lady stirred a whirlwind of criticism against the actor in India. The furious fan and follower of Aamir Khan grievously slammed him for meeting Emine Erdogan because Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is a staunch critic of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi for stoking religious extremism and Islamophobia in India and for forcefully annexing Jammu Kashmir.

Turkey has repeatedly expressed solidarity with the people of Pakistan. It has been vociferously protesting against the forced occupation of Jammu Kashmir by India. Moreover, Turkey is also a strong ally of Pakistan. Hence, Turkey’s unbridled stance on the Kashmir issue seems to have soured its relations with India.

In his meeting with Emine Erdogan, Aamir Khan informed the First Lady about the charity work of his foundation. Aamir Khan, occupied a spot on the list of trends after a video of him getting mobbed by fans surfaced on social media.

Social media backlash

Aamir Khan trended atop on Indian social media following the polemic against him. Indian social media users called him ‘’hypocrite’’ and even questioned his loyalty for India and PM Narendra Modi. The disgruntled Indians even branded Aamir Khan a traitor.

Now fans and followers have decided to dislike the trailer of Laal Singh Chaddha to record their protest against the Bollywood actor. Commentators anticipate that trailer of Aamir Khan’s upcoming movie will be the most disliked trailer after the recently release trailer of Sadak 2. Calls have been made on social media to boycott the movie Laal Singh Chaddha.

Aamir Khan’s Laal Singh Chaddha is a remake of Tom Hank’s Forrest Gump, which was based on a 1986’s novel by the same name, written by Winston Groom. Tom Hanks played the lead character alongside Robert Wright and Gary Sinise. The movie received several accolades and was the biggest hit of that year.

The film was an enormous success at the box office; it became the top-grossing film in America released that year and earned over US$677 million worldwide during its theatrical run, making it the second highest-grossing film of 1994, behind The Lion King. The soundtrack sold over 12 million copies. Forrest Gump won the Academy Awards for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor for Hanks, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Visual Effects, and Best Film Editing. It received many award nominations, including Golden Globes, British Academy Film Awards, and Screen Actors Guild Awards.
