A UK court convicted former Member of House of Lords of the United Kingdom Lord Nazir Ahmed of sexual assault. A lawyer of the 64-year-old British Pakistani politician revealed that he will appeal against the convictions.
The court announced that Lord Nazir has been found guilty of a serious sexual assault against a boy and the attempted rape of a young girl when he was a teenager.
As per reports, in the 1970s, Lord Nazir tried to rape a young girl, who was his first cousin. During the same period, he also sexually assaulted the boy who was under the age of 11 and another first cousin of Lord Nazir.

Lord Nazir on the other hand denied the charges. He called the allegations “malicious fiction.” However, a phone recording from 2016 between the two victims stated otherwise.
According to reports submitted to the court, the male victim first contacted the female victim claiming he has evidence.
“I have evidence against that paedophile,” the jury heard. After the male victim’s email, the female victim called him up.

Allegations of sexual misconduct
Lord Nazir became the first Muslim to be appointed in the House of Lords and made history. He took his oath in 2019 after a service of 21 years. However, in 2020 he announced his resignation from the House of Lords.
Important to note, a Conduct Committee report recommended the expulsion of Lord Nazir for allegedly exploiting a vulnerable woman.
According to the report, Lord Nazir emotionally “exploited” a 43-year-old British Pakistani citizen in 2017. To clarify, the victim approached Lord Nazir for help with a personal issue, but according to the victim, Lord Nazir abused her. There are reports that suggest they both had a consensual sexual relationship, on which she stated, “I was looking for help and he took advantage of me. He abused his power.”
As a result, the head of committee, in the inquiry report stated, “while Lord Ahmed was taking no steps to help Ms. Zaman for the majority of their interactions, he allowed and encouraged her to believe that he was.”
