Firdous Ashiq Awan, Special Assistant to Prime Minister Imran Khan on Information and Broadcasting has credited premier Imran Khan and First Lady Bushra Bibi for the establishment of Al-Qadir University in Sohawa.
Awan, in a press conference, had stated that it was a joint wish of the couple to establish an academic institute that will conduct research and impart education on the life and principles of Holy Prophet Muhammad SAW and Sufism. Both PM Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi had an idea that the people especially youth must be taught about the Holy Prophet’s life hence they both took a personal interest in the project.
PM Khan laid the foundation of Al-Qadir University in Sohawa on Sunday. “Countries cannot progress till its people get education”, said Imran Khan while addressing the groundbreaking ceremony. Adding to the good news PM announced that “thirty-five percent of the students will be getting scholarships [at Al-Qadir University]”.

“I had been thinking about creating this university for the past 23 years,” the premier said. “It has been named after Abdul Qadir Jilani, who linked science and spirituality. We consider spirituality a super science; it needs research, which will be conducted here”.

Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Overseas Pakistanis & Human Resource Development Zulfikar Bukhari told media that “Previously, no university existed between Gujrat and Rawalpindi forcing the students of area aiming for higher education to go to other cities. Sohawa has been selected to establish Al-Qadir University to cater to the educational needs of youth in area”.
The First Lady Bushra Bibi is a spiritual guide. PM Khan and Bushra bibi tied the knot last year. Ever since becoming the First Lady, Bushra Bibi has taken a keen interest in the welfare of the people. She has been visiting the various shelter homes and public hospitals to inspect the facilities provided.
A couple of weeks ago, she made a surprise visit to Gulab Devi Hospital in Lahore. She reviewed the arrangement of the hospital and inquired about the patient’s health and their problems.

“Prime Minister desires provision of the basic health facility to each citizen,” she said to the administrative staff. Earlier, in December she visited shelter home in Lahore and reviewed its arrangement.
