Rape Victim Refuses to Take Legal Action Against PML-N MPA

In a separate case, a university student, who alleged that a Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader had raped and blackmailed her for 11 months, had deviated from her statement and refused to take legal action against the legislature on August 8.

The PML-N member provincial assembly (MPA) Attaur Rehman left for United Arab Emirates (UAE) after she accused him of raping and blackmailing her for 11 months in Multan. On the night of August 5, the MPA left for Dubai on a tourist visa from Multan airport. According to the visa document, Rehman has a UAE visa valid till September 20, 2019, and he apparently used it to avoid possible arrest in the sex scandal case.

Surprising as it may seem, Dawn reported that after the MPA facing rape allegations reportedly left for UAE, the police concerned claimed on August 7 that they received no complaint against him.

The Express Tribune had earlier reported that Rehman allegedly raped S* after taking her to an undisclosed location in the guise of office work around 11 months ago. The victim said Rehman also filmed her ordeal using his mobile phone and threatened her of dire consequences if she refused to keep mum over the incident.

While threatening the victim that he would post the video online, Rehman allegedly blackmailed the victim into having sex for months to follow. “She eventually fell sick after Rehman allegedly sodomized her and was admitted to a hospital,” the paper reported.

She stated that she neither had any link, nor any dealings with the MPA, the paper stated, adding that she did not want to take any legal action against the MPA.

The victim, who is a first-year student of MSCS at the National College of Business Administration & Economics (NCBAE) in Multan, said that the influential PML-N leader had allegedly been blackmailing her that he would post her rape video on social media if she did not obey him.

The student, originally a resident of Lahore, was relocated to Multan for studies a year ago and has been working at the Pakistan Human Development Foundation (PHDF) – a local NGO being run by the lawmaker – ever since.

The details of the incident emerged after a social media post showing the girl’s application to a magistrate surfaced in which she alleged that the MPA had raped her and made objectionable video clips of her.

Later, the victim deviated from her statement. Dawn reported that an affidavit signed by the ‘victim’ on July 25 surfaced on social media, in which she stated that her allegations against the MPA were a result of a misunderstanding and that some miscreants had pressurized her into submitting the application with a magistrate.

She stated that she neither had any link, nor any dealings with the MPA, the paper stated, adding that she did not want to take any legal action against the MPA.

Earlier, she had alleged that the MPA raped her last time on July 26. Also, she had claimed that she went to the Bahauddin Zakariya Police Station to get an order for her medical examination but the police refused to take any action because of the MPA’s influence.
