Grammy-winning rapper Cardi B and her estranged husband, Offset, are embroiled in a legal dispute over allegations of defrauding the owner of a Beverly Hills mansion. The property, which was featured in Cardi’s “Like What (Freestyle)” music video, has become the center of a lawsuit claiming the couple misrepresented their intentions to avoid paying the full rental fees. As Cardi takes to social media to defend herself, the battle now heads to court.
Allegations of Deception
The lawsuit, filed by the mansion’s owner and obtained by Rolling Stone, alleges that Cardi B and Offset booked the property under false pretenses. According to the complaint, the couple’s representatives claimed they were renting the home for a TikTok video, which led the owner to waive the standard rental fee. However, instead of a short social media clip, the couple allegedly used the mansion for a full-length music video shoot for Cardi’s song, “Like What,” released in March 2024.

The owner, identified as Bi LLC, stated in court documents that had he known the property would be featured in a high-production music video, he would have charged much higher fees. The lawsuit claims Cardi and Offset improperly profited from using the mansion, seeking over $35,000 in damages for trespassing, misrepresentation, and unjust enrichment.
Cardi B’s Fiery Response
Not one to shy away from controversy, Cardi B quickly responded to the allegations via social media. Taking to X (formerly known as Twitter), she strongly denied the claims and asserted that she had paid the owner $10,000 in cash to rent the mansion for 24 hours. According to Cardi, both the owner and realtors were present during the entire video shoot, and they were fully aware that it was not a TikTok video.
“We paid those people $10,000 in cash… Now they wanna finesse us trying to say we told them it was a TikTok video,” Cardi wrote, before adding a fiery retort: “IRON YOUR BEST SUIT B****, I’ll see you in court!”
Cardi also emphasized that they had paid an additional fee for exceeding their rental time by one hour, which she claimed was resolved with the realtor back in March.
High Stakes Amid Personal Challenges
This lawsuit arrives at a tumultuous time for Cardi B and Offset. The couple, who recently welcomed their third child together on September 7, 2024, has been dealing with ongoing divorce proceedings since earlier this summer. Despite their separation, the couple has been seen putting aside their differences to focus on their family, including celebrating their son Wave’s birthday with a joint celebration in early September.
