After much delay, the Supreme Court of Pakistan finally announced its verdict in the Deputy Speaker ruling case. Soon afterward, Careem posted a sarcastic comment that read, “Captain is ready to take you home.”
It is no secret that any political developments in Pakistan lead to new Twitter trends and leg-pulling on social media.
This time, Careem, a popular mobile phone application that provides commute services, took to Twitter to take a dig at Hamza Shahbaz’s ouster. Careem posted a sarcastic comment that read, “Captain is ready to take you home.”

While the PTI supporters who were happy with the Supreme Court’s decision were replying to the sarcastic tweet, PMLN supporters got offended and initiated a Twitter hashtag #BoycottCareem.

The PMLN supporters seem to be very angry and frustrated as they are trying to bring down the rating of Careem application by downrating it. A few users are uninstalling the application while others are demanding an apology.

On the other hand, many PTI supporters are downloading the application although the service is not available in their region in order to support Careem and make up for any damages that the #BoycottCareem trend might cause.

The trend is currently among the top two Twitter trends in Pakistan as both sides are using the tag to engage more and more audience for their tweets.
The ruling of the deputy speaker Dost Muhammad Mazari that disregarded the ten votes of PML-Q was overturned by the Supreme court. Consequently, Chaudhry Pervez Elahi has been declared the new Chief Minister of Punjab while Hamza Shehbaz has been ordered to vacate the office immediately.
