PML-Q President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain rejected the rumors of a possible rift within the party. In a hard-hitting statement, the PML-Q supreme leader clarified that his family and the party are “on the same page”.
According to a statement issued by the party, Shujaat said that all political decisions were taken in consultation with him and had his “full support.”
Monday, reports emerged of fissures within PML-Q as the party expressed support for PM Khan in the no-confidence vote, in exchange for the seat of Punjab Chief Minister. Shortly after the agreement, PML-Q leader Tariq Bashir Cheema resigned as federal minister for Housing.
While resigning, he said that he did not want to support the PTI government as it failed to bring stability and resolve governance issues. Furthermore, he also stated that he will vote against PM Khan in the no-confidence motion.
“I have also decided to vote in favour of the no-confidence motion against the prime minister […] I am not sure what the party will decide, but Chaudhry Shujaat and Pervaiz Elahi will make the same decision,” Cheema told the media.
Needless to say, the development sparked speculations of a rift within PML-Q as the party had expressed support for the government on numerous occasions.

Ch. Shujaat’s statements
As per the statement, shared by Federal Minister Moonis Elahi, Ch. Shujaat rejected all reports regarding the rifts.
“The rumors that are circulating are false,” the PML-Q leader said in the statement. He clarified that the party makes decisions by consulting him first.
“I don’t like to issue clarifications but I will still make it clear that I am considered as the patriarch,” he added.

Furthermore, he said it is inappropriate to twist the facts and falsely accuse the youth. The number of youth, according to him, in the current assembly was more than that in the previous assemblies. “It would be wrong to accuse them of any wrongdoing.”
The PML-Q chief also said that the term “use of money” is wrong and educated people do not like such discussions.
“Those who want to gain political advantage by propagating differences will face disappointment,” he asserted.
