China’s biggest music company Tencent has contacted Federal Information and Broadcast Minister Fawad Chaudhry and expressed their wish to invest in Pakistan’ film and music industry.
The information minister, in the meeting, said the music of Pakistan was highly rich and diverse and “we wish to encourage our artists to showcase their talent and promote the diversity in the cultural landscape of the country through the art of music.” He said that Pakistani music and singers are highly popular in another region of sub-continent.
The Minister also informed the music company delegation about the calendar prepared by the Information Ministry to hold various festivals and cultural events in Pakistan.
“Our country has produced one of the legendary musicians, Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, who not only dominated the scene of music in the Sub-continent but made his mark at the global level too,” he added. The minister also briefed the delegation about the Lok Virsa, an affiliated department with the Information ministry that works on the promotion and preservation of music and old musical instruments of Pakistan.
Fawad Chaudhry also referred to the new visa policy in which the current government has extended the visa relaxation to promote tourism and entertainment industry in Pakistan. “We are open to investment in the fields of film and music as these are vital mediums to promote values and culture of any society,” he said.
Fawad Chaudhry also informed the delegation about the scenic and spectacular spots in the upper part of Pakistan for shooting of film and music. He said Pakistan was once the third highest film-producing country but the trend of production had unfortunately declined with the passage of time. “We have now 127 cinema screens at the moment and we aim to raise their number to 1,000.”

The Minister also informed the music company delegation about the calendar prepared by the Information Ministry to hold various festivals and cultural events in Pakistan. “We would like you to contribute in these festivals to make them more colorful and dynamic.” But he stressed that there needs to be a formal agreement between the music company and the Information Ministry so that the bond of collaboration and friendship can be strengthened further.
