One of the highlights is the introduction of a Rawalpindi to Murree tourist glass train, which is set to offer breathtaking views and a unique travel experience. High-rise hotels on Mall Road will be relocated to preserve the scenic beauty, and a uniform appearance for buildings will be implemented.
Infrastructure, Eco-Preservation
The development plan prioritizes infrastructural upgrades, including the repair and expansion of roads and the installation of RCC and tuff tiles on village streets. The Murree-Kashmir Road will see significant improvements, and temporary parking spaces will be established to manage tourist influx.
In a bid to solve Murree’s water woes, a project has been approved to repair the existing system, enabling the supply of over 600,000 gallons of potable water daily. Additionally, rainwater harvesting initiatives will support over 1,100 homes, ensuring a sustainable water supply.
Ecotourism is a cornerstone of the new plan, with projects aimed at enhancing the natural environment for wildlife and creating tourist-friendly spaces. Bansara Gali Wildlife Park and Bagh Shaheedan Park will be developed with tree houses, camping sites, and walkways. The Murree Biodiversity Park will provide natural habitats for plants, birds, and animals, alongside picnic areas and tourist huts. The plan also includes restoring the old names of cities and historical buildings, reinforcing Murree’s rich cultural heritage.
Modern Amenities and Anti-Encroachment Efforts
The plan incorporates the modernization of amenities for both residents and tourists. The upgradation of Simli Hospital, installation of street lights, and construction of public toilets are underway. Digital counting cameras will be installed on entry routes, and a Smart Tram service will facilitate easy movement for visitors. To combat illegal constructions, an anti-encroachment campaign has been launched, resulting in the removal of 13 unlawful structures. Financial aid will be provided to workers injured during these operations.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz emphasized the importance of immediate legislation to preserve historical names and install memorials. She stated, “Murree has improved significantly, and we will make it the best for the people.”
Nawaz Sharif highlighted the need for efficient laws to serve the public better, reflecting on past achievements like the Motorway and the elimination of terrorism and load shedding. The meeting concluded with a commitment to continue the anti-encroachment campaign without compromise, ensuring that Murree’s transformation aligns with the highest standards of development and sustainability.
