As the federal government pledged action against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) following its “do-or-die” protest in Islamabad, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz labeled the former ruling party a “group of terrorists” that she believes must be “eradicated.”
Speaking at the launch of the “Suthra Punjab” sanitation initiative, Maryam emphasized the need to cleanse Pakistan of political unrest alongside improving its streets. She criticized PTI for spending the past four years in rallies and processions without adhering to democratic norms.

“Those who call themselves democratic must act democratically. Despite holding rallies and processions, no one stopped you until violence erupted,” she said.
PTI’s recent three-day protest demanding Imran Khan’s release ended in clashes between law enforcement and protesters, reportedly resulting in the deaths of four law enforcement personnel and at least 12 protesters. Maryam condemned the violence, stating, “PTI protesters attacked law enforcement with nailed sticks, capturing and injuring a Superintendent of Police. Is this what a peaceful protest looks like?”
Addressing allegations of violence during the protests, she questioned PTI’s failure to provide evidence of their claims and referred to Imran Khan as the mastermind behind the unrest, now imprisoned. “This group of terrorists must face strict action for unlawful activities,” she declared.

Maryam also criticized the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) cabinet for prioritizing weapons and vehicles for protests over public welfare. “Placing provincial interests above the federation is a dangerous trend rooted in a criminal mindset,” she warned.
Highlighting her stance on activism, Maryam stated, “I support democratic activism, not violent activism. Peaceful protests are the way to convey concerns to relevant stakeholders.”
