CM Sindh must resign: Fawad Chaudhry

News Analysis |

Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry has said that in face of the charges that the Chief Minister is facing; he should resign. “The PTI government never wanted a governor raj in Sindh. However, we want the CM Sindh Murad Ali Shah to resign. All these speculations regarding governor raj has been created by the media and opposition”.

He made these statements while conversing with TV anchorperson Dr. Moeed Pirzada on his program “Live with Moeed Pirzada” on GNN immediately after his press brief in which, again, he placed emphasis on governor raj issue. “Government stands firmly on its principle demand that CM Sindh Murad Ali Shah should resign because his name has been mentioned in a very detail fashion in the JIT report submitted to Supreme Court in the corruption of the fake accounts by the Omni group.

Fawad Chaudhry categorically mentioned the role of media in forging the hype of governor raj and expressed displeasure with the way media is portraying the issue.

There is no option for him but to resign”, he added. This whole thing was created by the media because media channels need ratings, news and discussions. They have sparked speculations and this is how the media handle their business”. Briefing the anchor on his cancelled trip to Karachi, the information minister said that he previously was going to Karachi to meet and brief the people and stakeholders on the situation that embroiled after the JIT report on fake accounts.

“However, I have cancelled this trip for the time being because the Supreme Court is upset due to the general impression that we are pushing for the governor raj; which we want to dispel”. However, he said that this trip will take place soon enough because, as mentioned earlier, the government firmly stands on its demand that the CM Sindh should resign.

Murad Ali Shah should resign because his name has been mentioned in a very detail fashion in the JIT report submitted to Supreme Court in the corruption of the fake accounts by the Omni group.

Upon answering a query on whether if placing the Chief Minister Sindh’s name on the Exit Control List was a mistake, the information minister said that to the extent that he (Murad Ali Shah) is the Chief Minister Sindh, it creates a very negative impact. “But there have been instances, even a sitting Finance Minister who was needed in an investigation and he ran off from the country using the Prime Minister’s plane; there are precedents of people running away. So this also has to be taken into consideration”.

Commenting on PPP leader Farhatullah Babar’s written application to the Ministry of Interior that PM Imran Khan’s and many other PTI leaders’ names including Pervaiz Khattak’s should also be on the Exit Control List, he said that it is a ridiculous and baseless move.

The Information Minister also explained the methodology of the 172 names being placed on the ECL. “The procedure is this that when any investigation agency FIA or NAB or JIT recommends names then the government is obliged to do so. And, in this case the JIT has directed government to put their names on ECL”.
