COAS called on President: Zardari expressed concerns over baseless campaign against Army

The president paid tribute to the nation's martyrs, acknowledging their sacrifices as emblematic of Pakistani resilience and strength.

In a significant inaugural encounter, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asim Munir briefed President Asif Ali Zardari on Wednesday about the ongoing anti-terrorism operations of the Pakistan Army. He also highlighted the military’s preparedness against conventional threats, marking a crucial discussion at the presidency in Islamabad. The meeting concluded with a message of unity and determination to uphold peace, security, and progress within Pakistan.

The meeting delved into critical issues encompassing national security and developmental strategies, showcasing the unity between the civilian government and the armed forces in navigating challenges and advancing the nation’s interests.

President Zardari acknowledged the significant role played by the Armed Forces of Pakistan while expressing dismay over baseless campaigns targeting the military by a particular political faction. He affirmed the pivotal role of the army in safeguarding the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

During the meeting, General Munir extended congratulations to President Zardari on assuming the presidency and the role of Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces. He conveyed sincere wishes for a successful tenure and provided an update on the ongoing military operations against terrorism, emphasizing the army’s readiness to counter conventional threats effectively. Additionally, he highlighted the army’s contributions to development projects, particularly in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) regions.

National interest will never be compromised 

President Zardari praised the Pakistan Army’s efforts in fostering social uplift in affected areas, underscoring their unwavering commitment to national progress. He reiterated Pakistan’s staunch resolve against terrorism and pledged a comprehensive response utilizing all national resources.

An official statement from the President’s Secretariat revealed President Zardari’s grave concerns regarding unfounded accusations made by a specific political party and a few individuals against the military institution and its leadership. These accusations were viewed as attempts to serve narrow political agendas, prompting the resolve to address such disruptive elements firmly.
