A delegation of U.S. Congress members, led by Jack Bergman and including Thomas Souzzi and Jonathan Jackson, met with Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff (COAS), General Syed Asim Munir, to discuss a broad spectrum of mutual interests, with a special focus on regional security and defense cooperation.

According to a statement released by Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), both parties reaffirmed the importance of maintaining consistent engagement rooted in mutual respect, shared values, and aligned strategic priorities.

The visiting lawmakers lauded the Pakistan Armed Forces for their crucial role in combating terrorism and acknowledged the country’s continued efforts towards promoting regional peace and stability. They also expressed deep admiration for the resilience of the Pakistani nation and its strategic potential.
Reiterating their respect for Pakistan’s sovereignty, the U.S. congressional delegation affirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation across multiple sectors, particularly in security, trade, investment, and economic development.
General Munir expressed his gratitude for the visit and reiterated Pakistan’s intention to broaden and enhance its longstanding partnership with the United States in a way that is mutually respectful and beneficial. The meeting also saw the signing of memorandums of understanding (MoUs) aimed at boosting training collaboration in the field of information technology.

Earlier, the U.S. delegation also met with Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi in Islamabad. During the meeting, Naqvi highlighted Pakistan’s pivotal role in the global fight against terrorism, stating that “Pakistan stands as a wall between terrorism and the rest of the world.”
The discussions touched upon strengthening cooperation in the fields of economy, trade, investment, security, counterterrorism, and border management. Naqvi called terrorism a “global challenge” and emphasized the importance of international support for Pakistan, particularly in intelligence and technology sharing to combat the threat effectively.
He noted that Pakistan’s sacrifices in the fight against terrorism are unparalleled and said the U.S. lawmakers’ visit would help spotlight Pakistan’s significant role in this domain. The interior minister also welcomed the delegation’s involvement in the upcoming Pakistan Minerals Investment Forum 2025, assuring them of full facilitation and security for potential investors.
Naqvi underlined that robust and lasting ties with the United States remain a cornerstone of Pakistan’s foreign policy. He also welcomed the formation of the Pakistan Caucus in the U.S., scheduled for April 30, calling it a positive step forward.
The U.S. delegation stressed the need to amplify awareness of Pakistan’s contributions in the war on terror and praised the Pakistani-American community in the United States as talented and industrious.
