COAS General Qamar Javed Bajwa met Pakistani-boxer Muhammad Waseem in Rawalpindi on Wednesday. COAS felicitated Muhammad Waseem on his recent ground-breaking achievement and his inclusion into the world’s top 10 list.

Following his recent victory against Philippine’s boxer Conrado Tanmor in Dubai, he is now ranked on the ninth spot in the world in the World Boxing Council (WBC) Flyweight Rankings. Waseem knocked his opponent out in just 82 seconds.

A social media uproar for not giving national hero Muhammad Waseem a heroic reception upon his return from Dubai garnered the attention of notable dignitaries and celebrities. Muhammad Waseem was left disheartened to see no one turned up to receive him. After returning home from the airport, he tweeted that he does not win for ‘istaqbals’ but for his country to be well received abroad.

Following his tweet, former cricketers Wasim Akram, Shoaib Akhtar, Imran Ashraf, and Jehangir Khan and other released congratulatory messages for Muhammad Waseem on social media, hailing his tremendous victory and subsequent achievement.

Wasim Akram issued a public apology on behalf of Pakistani people to Muhammad Waseem after his victory went unnoticed back home. Akram remorse that only a few people turned up to welcome him when he deserved a massive reception.
He said that sometimes “the country needs to be smacked in the face to give their heroes the treatment they deserve. The former cricketer also added that he would personally be receiving the boxer the next time.

Shoaib Akhtar also visited the boxing champion Muhammad Waseem and congratulated him on his victory. He also released a video message for him on his YouTube account. Akhtar commented that his punches are so strong he will win titles in the future.
