Coke Studio gets a makeover: Recording in the open with new artists

News Desk |

The new producers of ‘Coke Studio’ Ali Hamza and Zohaib Kazi are revolutionizing the presentation of music in season 11. The new season will have a separate segment named Coke Studio explorer that will feature regional singers.

Instead of recording the regional songs in the closed studios, the songs will be performed and recorded in original settings. The team will travel to every nook and cranny of the country to feature the unexplored talent that exists in Pakistan.

According to the talented pair of producers, Coke Studio Season 11 will reinvigorate the core theme of Coke Studio- to celebrate the diversity of music.

In an interview to a local media outlet, Hamza said the authenticity and truthfulness of the expression is unique in the new season of Coke Studio. The producers elaborated their idea of exploration and authenticity in detail. They shed the lights on their journey of ‘exploration’.

“Our job is to facilitate and curate artists, give them the freedom to go and explore. At the end of the day, it’s a collaborative platform and the coming together of a lot of people. It’s a live performance captured in a single-take for us to work on and for that, the vibe matters the most. Considering that, we tried to keep it as original as possible.”

What we’ve done through Explorer, what immediately one notices is the visual relief. For so many years you’ve seen production in a studio only and suddenly, we’ve gone to these places. We’ve visited Chitral, the mountains, the deserts; we’ve gone to the fields in villages.

To bring that visual and in a manner that it’s celebratory will hopefully generate some feeling of happiness and sense of pride about seeing how much diversity Pakistan has”, said Ali Hamza. “We’ve gone to Kalash and found these amazing young Kalashi singers who have great exposure despite very weak satellite and no internet at all.

There was this one girl called Farsi Gul we met, who changed her name to Ariana inspired by Ariana Grande! It’s that drive that in this day and age, people are connecting world-over, and to capture and share their motivation, their resilience and drive is more inspiring to us now than what we say around us here in cities”, added Zohaib Kazi.

The first episode of the mini-series features two pretty girls, Amrina and Ariana of Kalash singing a regional song in their melodious voice. The song titled ‘Parek’ is shot and recorded in the snow-covered valley of Kalash.

The Coke Studio has become an immensely popular music platform in Pakistan since its inception. Its popularity has hiked in previous seasons since it brought out an intriguing facet of pop music in Pakistan. The Coke Studio Pakistan has made its presence internationally. A fairly innovative concept by Ali Hamza and Zohaib Kazi will take the popularity of Coke Studio Pakistan to a new level.
