Concerns mount for Jibran Nasir: Nation demands his immediate release

Jibran Nasir – husband of actress Mansha Pasha – is a prominent human rights activist and lawyer who has been actively involved in advocating for social justice and minority rights and countering extremism in the country.

However, the sudden news of Jibran Nasir’s abduction in Karachi has sent shockwaves throughout the nation. The circumstances surrounding his apprehension remain unclear, fueling concerns about his safety and well-being.

“HRCP is deeply concerned by reports that lawyer and activist Jibran Nasir has been abducted by unknown armed persons in Karachi. We demand that he be safely recovered immediately and his abductors held accountable under the law,” the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan said.

“Jibran Nasir is a brave soul who speaks truth to power and has done so for many years. Disturbing news about his apparent abduction and I hope he is released soon,” prominent author and Director of Wilson Centre’s South Asia Institute Michael Kugelman said.

“Absolutely condemnable! We strongly demand that Jibran Nasir is immediately released, as his abduction is completely against the Constitution of Pakistan. The law of the jungle must not prevail in Pakistan!” PTI said on its official Twitter account.

Prime Minister’s Strategic Reforms Salman Sufi also tweeted his support for the human rights activist.

“Very disturbing to hear about [Jibran Nasir] abduction. Hope Sindh police will assist his family and locate him immediately. Jibran has always spoken against violent extremism and rioting. Hoping for his safe and immediate return,” he wrote.

Jibran Nasir’s abduction in Karachi

In a video shared on social media, actress Mansha Pasha recounted the incident, which took place late Thursday night while they were returning home after having dinner.

“About half an hour ago, a group of people abducted my husband Jibran Nasir, a well-known lawyer who has contributed significantly to the country,” a visibly shaken Mansha Pasha narrated the incident.

She said their car was intercepted by approximately 15 armed men travelling in a white double-cabin vehicle.

“We were returning [home] from dinner, when a big white car intercepted us, almost causing us to crash. There were some 15 people, armed with pistols. They forcefully took away my husband,” Mansha Pasha said.

Seeking support from the public, she then earnestly implored people to raise their voices in solidarity with her husband and pray for his safe and swift return.
