A couple in India has sued their son for allegedly not giving them a grandchild after marriage. The couple has sued their only son and his wife for not giving them a grandchild after six years of marriage.
Sanjeev and Sadhana Prasad, 61 and 57 say they married their only son from their savings. They paid for his pilot’s training as well as for his lavish wedding. They are demanding compensation worth nearly $650,000 if no grandchild is born within a year.
The couple’s son and his wife have not yet commented on the issue. The lawsuit was filed based on ‘mental harassment.’ Father says he spent all his savings on his son. He sent him to the US for pilot training at the cost of $65,000. He returned to India in 2007 and lost his job hence his family supported him. Shrey Sagar did eventually get a job as a pilot. He was married to Shubhangi Sinha, now 31. Shrey Sagar is 35.
I gave my son all my money, got him trained in America. I don't have any money now. We have taken a loan from bank to build home. We're troubled financially& personally. We have demanded Rs 2.5 cr each from both my son & daughter-in-law in our petition: SR Prasad, Father pic.twitter.com/MeKMlBSFk1

Mental cruelty?
The couple says they married off his son so that they could play with their grandchild “during their retirement.” They added that they paid for a wedding reception at a five-star hotel, a luxury car worth $80,000, and a honeymoon abroad.
“My son has been married for six years but they are still not planning a baby,” Mr. Prasad said. “At least if we have a grandchild to spend time with, our pain will become bearable.”
The couple now demands money back because of mental cruelty. “It is a dream of every parent to become a grandparent. They had been waiting for years to become grandparents.” The couple says they don’t care about gender they just want a grandchild.
The petition is being filed in Haridwar and is expected to be heard on May 17th.
