Did not accept gift and dowry on my wedding, Ali Zafar

Popular singer Ali Zafar engaged with audiences at Faisalabad Literature Festival, shedding light on a multitude of subject including education, dowry, and spirituality. The singer declared recent debacles as a test from Allah.

Singer Ali Zafar claimed that he did not accept gifts, dowry or money from his in-laws at his wedding. He professed while speaking against dowry at Faisalabad Literature Festival on Saturday.

“I set only one condition for my marriage that I wouldn’t be accepting any gifts, money or dowry from my in-laws, said Zafar in conversation with moderator Noor-ul-Hassan.

Ali Zafar not only slammed the dowry culture but also expressed his annoyance on the practice of squandering money on weddings.

 

He opposed the concept of saddling the bride’s father with the expectations of a lavish wedding, where a middle-class father ends up spending his lifelong savings on his daughter’s wedding under societal pressure. Adding that, “stop thinking what would people say.”

He advocated the idea of marriage given in Islam. Human-to-human relationships must be based only on love and sincerity said, Zafar.

He also appreciated his beautiful wife, Aisha Fazli said that he feels blessed to have her as his wife. Expressing his views for his wife in response to a question, Ali said, “I wished to make her my life partner due to her kindness, empathy, and compassion… she never thinks badly of anyone… she is truly an angel and my support.”

The singer also sheds light on spirituality and getting closer to Almighty through prayers and supplications. He commented that ongoing tribulations were a test to him from God.

He also recited a spiritual Kalaam of famous Sufi Baba Bulleh Shah in his magnetic voice in the event.

Ali Zafar’s popularity and career suffered a blow when he was hit with allegations of sexual harassment allegations by renowned singer Meesha Shafi.

The singer has been legally battling the sexual harassment allegations after he filed the Rs.1 billion defamation case against Meesha Shafi.

Zafar, actor, and musician belonged to a middle-class family with both parent lecturer. He started his career as an artist, sketching images at a five-star hotel.

He has under his belt some popular projects including Teefa in Trouble, composing and singing energetic PSL songs. He has even appeared in nearly five Bollywood movies including Meray Brother ki Dulhan, Total Siyapaa, Teray bin Laden, Dear Zindagi, and Kill Dill.
