Directors of ‘Welcome To New York’ are dismayed over the reports of unanticipated controversy brewing between Arijit Singh and Salman Khan on social media.
The reports have accused that Salman Khan forced the producers to replace Arijit Singh’s voice with Rahat Fateh Ali Khan for a song in the movie, owing to the alleged rift that exists between them.
The reports claim that the makers wanted to keep the song in Arijit’s voice that also has a cameo by Salman Khan. Arijit Singh recorded the song that was apparently rejected by the actor.
Two contrasting statements from close sources of the team are circulating on the Internet.
One close source to the film, said, “Arijit has sung the rough scratch of the track which was to be used in the film. However, Salman was quite miffed and he told the makers, ‘Anyone in the fraternity could croon the track but Arijit.'”

Another source, however, rejected the controversy and said Salman Khan is unduly maligned for Arijit Singh’s non-selection for the song. The source anticipated the monetary settlements might have been the issue of disagreement between makers and singer Arijit Singh.
“One needs to get this right that ‘Welcome To New York’ is not Salman’s film. He just has one special appearance in the film so why will he even get into the music space? He himself is surprised after reading these baseless reports. Maybe Arijit could have lost out on the song because of his own monetary differences with the producers. After all, it’s the producers who make the final call.”
The director of the movie was quoted saying, “We are yet to decide on what to do. There have been films (with Pakistani singers), which have managed to go by without any hassle. There needs to be a balance between social responsibility and creative freedom. But people shouldn’t have to compromise on artistic liberties.”
Salman Khan, however, has been accused earlier of ensuring Arijit Singh does not get any song in his movie after their fallout in 2014 at an award ceremony. Arijit Singh was called on stage then, for felicitation on which he said, “Aap logon ne toh sula diya (you put us to sleep)”.

Later it was revealed that Salman pressurized the makers of his film ‘Kick’ and ‘Prem Ratan Dhan Payo’ to remove the already recorded songs of Arijit Singh from the album.
This happened with his 2016 film Sultan as well. Salman once again removed Arijit’s from the movie.
Arijit Singh wrote on Facebook: “Please do not remove the song that I sang for you in Sultan… I want to retire with at least one song of you keeping in my library. Please do not take away this feeling.” The post was deleted later.
