Dr Sania Nishtar to lead the Ehsaas program in Punjab

Dr. Sania Nishtar will continue to lead PTI's flagship social welfare and poverty alleviation program Ehsaas in Punjab. The news was announced by Dr Farrukh Habib in his press conference at Punjab Assembly.

Imran Khan, a former prime minister and the leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has instructed the Punjab government to reinstate the Ehsaas Program in the territory. Imran Khan has reportedly instructed the newly elected Provincial Government of Punjab, led by Pervez Elahi, to reinstate all of the programs under the Ehsaas banner in order to relieve the people’s suffering.

“I have asked Dr. Sania Nishtar to lead Ehsaas Program in Punjab,” said Imran Khan, adding that she will soon reach the province and monitor the restoration of all the social welfare programmes, including the Ehsaas Rashan Program, Ehsaas Panagah and Langar Program, and the Sehat Card.

The decision comes after Pervez Elahi becomes CM of Punjab

The statement comes a day after the Supreme Court (SC) ordered Pervez Elahi, the joint candidate of Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), to assume the role of the next Chief Minister of Punjab after Dost Mohammad Mazari’s decision was deemed “illegal.”

In spite of receiving only 179 votes to Pervez Elahi’s 186, the Deputy Speaker of the Punjab Assembly, Dost Mohammad Mazari, declared PML-N nominee Hamza Shehbaz the winner of the election for Chief Minister of Punjab after rejecting 10 votes from his party.

Taking back the Punjab Province, Former Prime Minister and PTI Chairman Imran Khan has directed the Pervez Elahi-led Provincial Government to restore the Ehsaas Program alongside other social welfare programmes in Punjab in order to provide relief to the public during the current economic crisis.

It is important to note that Shazia Marri, the newly appointed Federal Minister for Poverty Alleviation and Social Security, who replaced Dr. Sania Nishtar, abolished the Ehsaas Program and implemented some of its components into the Benazir Income Support Program (BISP).

It bears mentioning that Former Prime Minister Imran Khan-led Government had launched the Ehsaas Raabta App to help provide information and answer queries of beneficiaries regarding the initiatives of the Ehsaas Program. According to the details, the Ehsaas Raabta App was aimed at guiding a common man/beneficiary of the Ehsaas Program about different aspects of the initiative through an Android-based application.
