Dubai Sports Council appoints former Indian tennis star Sania Mirza as its sports ambassador on Wednesday.
Dubai Sports Council was established in 2005. It is the official body responsible for developing the sports sector in the United Arab Emirate’s Capital. The council supervises the work of Dubai’s seven local sports clubs and also actively encourages physical activity in society, especially among women and children.
The 37-year-old former tennis star shared the news with her fans and followers on Instagram.
“Honoured and grateful to be a sports ambassador for Dubai! Thank you for this incredible opportunity Dubai Sports Council,” Sania wrote in the Instagram post. The event was attended by notable sports figures including Khabib Nurgamedov and former Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh.
Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammad bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, met with leading sports figures and athletes at the Dubai Sports Retreat. The event was held at the Museum of Future in the presence of Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the chairman of the Dubai Sports Council.

“The Dubai Sports Retreat held at the Museum of the Future, brought together 100 prominent local and international figures, including renowned sports stars, further demonstrating Dubai’s growing status as a global sports destination,” said Sheikh Hamdan in a tweet.
“We thank all participants in the Dubai Sports Retreat, organised by @DubaiSC. The ideas and insights discussed at the event will help shape a brighter future for sports, enhance our clubs’ achievements, and nurture local talent,” he added further.

Fans and followers felicitated Mirza on her achievement. Sania Mirza retired from tennis last year after playing the Australian Open 2023 for the last time.
Sania Mirza has been living in Dubai for quite a few years. She continued to live in Dubai following her divorce from former Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik. Mirza owns a palatial house in Palm Jumeirah location in Dubai. She lives in this house with her son Izhaan Mirza Malik.
