ECP adds local supporter in PTI prohibited donor list

Interestingly, it seems that ECP has added the name the names of Pakistani nationals as well.

PTI has accused the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) of making mistakes in its verdict on PTI’s prohibited funding case. To clarify, ECP added the name of Pakistani nationals in the case.

Earlier, the ECP announced that PTI did indeed receive prohibited funding. It said that the party received funds from 34 unknown sources and hid 13 accounts from the electoral body. The ECP said that the party, in violation of the Constitution, had received funds from 34 foreigners. The party received funds from the US, Australia, and UAE.

Interestingly, it seems that ECP has added the name the names of Pakistani nationals as well. To clarify, in a written verdict, ECP said PTI, “received donations from Australia-based company Dunpec Limited, and Pakistani companies Anwar Brothers, Zain Cotton, and Young Sports which was again in violation of the law.”

However, Zain Cotton is a Pakistani company. Its owner Mian Akhter Javed released a statement saying the company is a family-run business registered in Faisalabad and he has all the legal documents, yet his company has been named by the ECP.

Mian Akhter said that he donated Rs. 10,000 and he is a Pakistani national. According to him, all the overseas Pakistanis have been named in the case. Mian Akhter also said it is an injustice to name the Pakistani nationals who just love their country and wanted to donate.

PTI’s reaction

Following the verdict, PTI has clarified that the case was of “prohibited funding” and not of “foreign funding” as is being touted. Overseas Pakistanis raised funds for the PTI and the ECP had acknowledged its narrative that it does not come under “foreign funding”. However, now it seems as if Pakistani nationals were named in the case.

“Mian Akhtar Javed funds 10000 rupees from Zain Cotton Mills, his name has also been put in the funding case and his statement has also come out. As the charge sheet of ECP is read, more and more absurd revelations are coming to light,” PTI leader Farrukh Habib tweeted.

“Serious and ridiculous mistakes in the decision of the Election Commission, calling the funding of Pakistani citizens foreign funding! Mian Akhtar Javed funds 10000 rupees from Zain Cotton Mills, his name is also put in the funding case,” PTI tweeted.
