The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has decided against posting the asset details and nomination form of politicians on its website. This decision of ECP has raised yet another question over the transparency of General Elections 2018 scheduled for July 25.
ECP has adopted stance that parliamentarians had not provided them enough time for legislation process of placing the details on the website. In the last elections, nomination forms were made public. No law exists for this purpose but the ECP used its constitutional right.
Experts have warned that concealing the details from the public will influence the transparency of electoral process.
Meanwhile, the ECP has revised the election program. According to a notification, the candidates can now file their nomination papers until June 11 and the preliminary list of the candidates will also be issued on the same day.
