Fakhar Zaman Denies Retirement Rumors, Vows to Return After Injury Recovery

Conflicting reports appear in the media regarding the retirement of Pakistani opener Fakhar Zaman. Several journalists have claimed that Fakhar Zaman is mulling retiring from Pakistan Cricket.

The opener is planning to shift his family abroad while he is planning to quit Pakistan Cricket which is currently facing an injury in his ankle. Fakhar Zaman suffered while fielding during the ICC Champions Trophy opening match between Pakistan and New Zealand in Karachi on February 19th, 2025.

Following his exit from the tournament, rumors began circulating about his retirement, but Fakhar denied them, saying, “There is no truth in the retirement news. I will be fully fit and join the team soon.”

Later the player was rested and Imam-ul-Haq was brought in for his replacement. A few days ago, speculations circulated media regarding his resignation.

Some stated that he has decided to retire due to his health concerns. However, the Pakistan Cricket Board soon denied these rumors and also uploaded a video from the cricketer denying his retirement.

“I heard about this [retirement rumours] a lot and even my friends messaged me about it, but there’s nothing to it,” he said. “The ODI format is my favorite format. Yes, with my thyroid, there was a thing that I could take more time getting back into it. But I want to play T20s, ODIs, even Tests again. As far as my comeback is concerned, I spoke to the doctor and I can start playing cricket again within the month,” said the cricketer in a short video.

Pakistan Cricket Team has been eliminated from the ICC Champions Trophy. Former cricketers and Pakistan cricket fans have slammed the team after their disappointing exit from the ICC Champions Trophy.

Pakistan lost their all-important group matches against New Zealand and India. New Zealand had beat Pakistan by 60 runs last week in the opening match of the tournament at Karachi’s National Stadium on 19th February.
