During an in-camera briefing on the national security situation in the National Assembly Hall on Friday, COAS Asim Munir called upon everyone to give up the debate of “Naya” and “Purana” and instead talk about “our Pakistan”.
People exercise their right to express opinions through the Constitution and parliament, he said, adding that “sovereignty belongs to Almighty Allah and the Constitution has been empowered by the command of Allah Almighty”.
Gen Asim Munir also said it was for the elected representatives of the people to determine the destination and that the Pakistan Army would fully support them in the journey of development and progress of Pakistan.

The MNAs welcomed the army chief’s views by thumping desks while Gen Asim congratulated the parliament and its members on the 50th anniversary of the implementation of the 1973 Constitution.
Furthermore, Federal Minister of Defence Khawaja Muhammad Asif also lauded the views of COAS Asim Munir and termed them ‘very welcoming’.
The defence minister further said that the Supreme Court is resisting the legislation to protect its power, adding that the power should be divided so that democracy should prevail.
